Dinosaur Magnetic Tiles: Magna-Tiles Dino World and Other Sets

Dinosaur magnetic tiles are regular magnetic building tiles packed with magnetic dinosaur figures, so kids build a habitat and then stomp through it. Magna-Tiles Dino World has 40 pieces with four dinosaurs, and PicassoTiles sells 38-piece dinosaur sets with eight figures. Both are labeled ages 3 and up. Check tiles for cracks, since loose magnets are dangerous if swallowed.

Which magnetic tile sets come with dinosaurs?

Magnetic tile sets with dinosaurs come from the main tile brands, and the difference is in the number of figures and how the tiles are themed. All of these are labeled for ages 3 and up.

Check the piece list on the box before you buy, since sellers sometimes list different tile counts for the same set name.

Magna-Tiles Dino World

Magna-Tiles Dino World is a 40-piece set with four oversized magnetic dinosaurs and volcano-themed tiles. The set’s listing at Flying Pig Toys shows 24 squares, 6 right triangles, 4 quarter circles, 1 rectangle and 1 large rectangle, plus a Pteranodon, T. rex, Stegosaurus and Velociraptor. The maker says the figures stand 3 to 6 inches, have movable parts, and come in colors not found in its other sets.

Magna-Tiles describes the tiles as food-grade, non-toxic, transparent MABS plastic with no BPA, phthalates or latex, and says the set works with all its other tiles. That makes Dino World a good add-on for a child who already has a basic Magna-Tiles set, as well as a starter set for a dinosaur fan.

PicassoTiles dinosaur sets

PicassoTiles dinosaur sets give more figures for the number of pieces. Kmart Australia lists the PicassoTiles Dino World Adventure set at 38 pieces: 18 squares, 11 triangles, 1 pentagon and 8 dinosaur figures, covering T. rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Raptor, Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Spinosaurus and Pteranodon. Butterbug Boutique lists a 38-piece PicassoTiles Dinosaur Theme set with dinosaur-printed tiles and eight magnetized figures for ages 3 and up.

PicassoTiles also sells the eight dinosaurs as a separate figure pack, which can add a dinosaur theme to tiles a family already owns. Tiles and figures from different brands may not match in size or magnet strength, so check that a figure pack fits the tiles you have.

Magnet safety for dinosaur magnetic tiles

Magnet safety matters more with magnetic tiles than with most toys, because each tile and figure holds small magnets inside. The CPSC warns that if a child swallows more than one magnet, or a magnet and a metal object, they can attract each other through the intestinal walls. The CPSC says this can tear, twist or block the intestines and can be fatal.

US toy rules take in the toy standard ASTM F963, which has a section on magnets, and the CPSC lists magnets among the requirements that need testing by an accepted third-party lab. The CPSC also bans small parts in toys meant for children under 3, which is one reason these sets carry a 3 and up label. Buy from a known brand or seller and keep the box with its age label. In a house with a baby or toddler, store the tiles out of reach between play sessions.

For children under 3, choose dinosaur toys without magnets. Our dinosaur gifts for toddlers guide covers age-graded options.
